7 Signs You Need a Plumbing Fixture Replacement

August 5, 2026 5 min read

Plumbing fixtures rarely fail dramatically. They warn you first — a small leak, a slow drip, a wobble you learn to ignore. The problem is that most homeowners tune out those warnings until a small issue becomes water damage. Knowing the signs helps you replace on your schedule, not on an emergency's.

Sign one: a toilet that rocks. A toilet should be solid. If it shifts when you sit, the seal is likely compromised and water may already be seeping under the base — into the subfloor where you can't see it. Rocking means replace the wax ring at minimum, and often the toilet itself.

Sign two: visible leaks under a sink. If you find water in the cabinet below a kitchen or bathroom sink, the supply line, trap, or fixture itself is failing. Hard water in Las Vegas ages these components faster than you'd expect. A leak under a sink is never going to fix itself.

Sign three: a toilet that runs constantly. A running toilet wastes hundreds of gallons and usually means the flapper, fill valve, or flush valve is worn. Sometimes it's a quick part swap; sometimes the fixture is old enough that replacement is the smarter call.

Sign four: corroded or green-stained fixtures. Green buildup around fixtures is mineral corrosion from hard water. Once corrosion is visible, the fixture is on borrowed time and the connections behind it are suspect.

Sign five: low water pressure after no other change. If pressure drops at a single fixture, the aerator or internal valve is likely clogged or failing. If it's across multiple fixtures, the issue is upstream — but a single-fixture drop usually means replace the fixture or its internals.

Sign six: cracks in the porcelain or basin. Hairline cracks in a toilet tank or sink basin can hold for a while, but they're structural failures in progress. A cracked tank can burst; a cracked sink can leak into the cabinet below.

Sign seven: the fixture is simply old. Toilets and faucets from decades ago use more water, have parts that are getting hard to source, and have supply lines that are well past their service life. Proactive replacement is cheaper than an emergency flood.

If any of these sound familiar, it's worth having a professional take a look before a small drip turns into a ceiling stain. We replace and install fixtures across Las Vegas and Henderson every week, and we'll give you an honest read on whether a part swap or a full replacement makes sense.
